![]() ![]() In Europe I worked for years as a day-by-day journalist and though it had its glorious moments, tailoring my messages to fit the word count and advertisers' idiosyncrasies was not what I wanted to do with my life. I haven’t done the press pass thing in a while. Instead I ambled through the parking lot, past the lengthy line of attendees, straight to the press reserved seats. I expected any moment Johnny Depp to swing by the ropes and tipsily wink at me. ![]() One of them was sailing out of the harbor and blew the fog horn. In the small harbor there were anchored several sail boats, as if it was centuries ago. It was a lovely evening, at the Light House on Chelsea Pier. By the end of April, 2011 I attended the opening night of the Pen World Voices Festival in preparation to my encounter with Mircea Cărtărescu. ![]()
